Everyone fears failure. But breakthroughs depend on it. The best teams embrace their mistakes and learn from them” – said by hundreds of people hundreds of times.
So here we are on the cusp of another season Mets fans and the quote of the day is from the fearless GM stating he sees Fernando Nieve slotting in as the 5th starter.
Well, we’d like to call a pre-emptive FAIL on that one.
This is a simple game kids, with lots of complications. You need good pitching, good hitting, and good fielding in that order to win. Since this is a marathon of possibly 200 games from Spring to Fall you need all that to be sustainable day after day to win.
Obviously Omar likes ‘Nando and we do too, just not locked in as the 5th starter. Basically because if he’s the 5th starter whose 6th, 7th, and 8th and beyond?
This is a recipe for disaster that we saw concocted for the last five years already from Omar. It’s gonna taste the same way again this year folks.

Here’s what happens: 1st game Johan against their ace. If Johan is better, we win. Johan is equal, then are our hitters better? If they’re equal, then how about that fielding? Now do the same thing down the line with Mike, John, Ollie, and ‘Nando and think Phillies for comparison.
Does that make your head hurt as much as it does mine?
It doesn’t help that you also have a Manager that has a bad instinct for when to apply the hook and tends to overwork the bullpen and never recognizes the hot stick in the lineup.
We might get a good start, as Jerry said we needed in the second best quote of the day, but as we all have seen as the arms get weary, and the replacements get weaker the season and hopes fade away. Now if you’re beginning your season with a guy that was a fall back guy last year as one of your top 5, where does that leave you optimists out there on this season?
Our only hope on Omar’s quote of the day is he’s trying to use it as a negotiating ploy for what’s left out there in the free agent pool, most of which chromosomes don’t swim in the number 2 starter gene pool. However, Omar has been saying this enough times to enough people that I’m starting to believe that he thinks it’s true. I think that is the root of a FAIL.

Name the only Mets pitcher to notch a W against the Yanks in ‘09 – that’s right! He ain’t Nieve scared!
