MetsFail

Yesterday the Dodgers signed Timo Perez to a minor league contract.  Yes, THAT Timo Perez.

But before I delve into that topic, I must digress for a bit.

I feel like the rookies that gets hazed by the seasoned veterans every season.   On Wednesday night I blogged my first blog.  I came into work on Thursday and was all excited to have my fellow MetsFAIL-ers read it and let me know what they thought of the piece.  If you haven’t read it yet, its the one titled This Day in MetsFAIL History.  (Yes I did just plug my own blog entry, so what?)  Most of the guys that write for MetsFAIL (or will at some point) work together at a to-remain-unnamed company in NYC and we spend most of our day chatting in a room only for Mets fans (occasionally taking a break to do some work, or to read  some random Deadspin postings). Well, as soon as I got into the chat room I asked everyone if they had read it yet… nothing.  I posted the link to the blog in the chat room…nothing.  The guys kept chatting with each other about Wednesday’s Gossip Girl episode, and who they thought was the best singer from the Dallas auditions for American Idol, and I remained invisible.  FINALLY one of the guys, we’ll call him Osse Jorosco, sent me a message on the side and told me that another one of the guys, we’ll call him Nasty Nick, told THEM all on the side to ignore me.  Yes, we are adults.  So I called N.N. out on it, the silence was broken, and they all  patted me on the head (electronically that is) like I  just hit my first home run. (Sorry all I could find was a Yankees clip).

But that wasnt all.  Late in the day, another MetsFAIL-er (and OhMurph.com veteran) who we shall call Kid Carter mentioned to be that we should do a story about Timo Perez in honor of him being signed by the Dodgers yesterday.  I told him I thought that would be a good idea.  I figured K.C. would volunteer to do it since he has yet to post on MetsFAIL, but apparently in this case we meant me.  Give the rookie the crap assignments.  Fine.  I understand.  I need to earn my stripes.  It’s not  problem.

I apologize for digressing.  I know you must all be getting antsy now.  I would be, I know that much.  So without further ado, MetsFAIL presents Timo Perez:

He was a rookie outfielder who arguably cost us game 1 of the 2000 World Series (and completely changed how the rest of the World Series could have played out) when, while standing on 1st base with 2 outs in the 6th inning, he mistakenly thought a ball hit by Todd Ziele was a home run, started jogging to 2nd base with his arms raised in the air signaling the ball was gone, only then to realize too late the ball was still in play, and proceeded to get gunned out at home, preventing the Mets a chance to go up 1-0, in a game won by the Yankees in 12 innings by a score of 4-3.

Is there anything else about his career we Mets fan should give a shit about?

Next time, gimme something with more substance to write about, ok?
